Candidates residing in the following locations/areas falling within the Geographical Jurisdiction of Southern Railway

2. Definition of Disabilities:
a) Blindness: Blindness refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the
following conditions, namely
(i) Total absence of sight; or
(ii) Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with
correcting lenses.
(iii) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.
b) Low Vision : “Person with low vision” means a person with impairment of visual
functioning even after treatment or standard refractive corrective but who uses or is
potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with
appropriate assistive device
c) Hearing impairment: ‘Hearing Impairment” means loss of sixty decibels or more in
the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. Hearing impairment would
also include persons who are deaf & dumb.
d) Loco motor disability: “Loco motor disability” means disability of the bones, joints
or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any
form of cerebral palsy.
e) Cerebral palsy:- Cerebral palsy means a group of non-progressive conditions of a
person characterized by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult
or injuries occurring in the prenatal, peri-natal or infant period of development.
All the cases of orthopedically handicapped persons would be covered under the category of
Loco motor disability or Cerebral palsy.

➡️ During the second year of apprenticeship training, there shall be an increase
of 10 per cent in the prescribed minimum stipend amount and further 15 per
cent increase in the prescribed minimum stipend amount during the third
year of apprenticeship training.
➡️ In the case of National or State Certificate holder, the period of training
already undergone by him or her in a school or other institution recognized
by the National council or state council, shall be taken into account for the
purpose of determining the minimum payable rate of stipend.
AGE LIMIT (as on date of notification):
i) The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should NOT have
completed 22/24 years for Freshers/Ex-ITI, MLT respectively.
ii) The Upper age is relax able by 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 10
Years for Person with Benchmark Disability (PwBD).
a. Candidates who want to avail the benefit of reservation of SC/ST, must produce
his/her Caste Certificate issued by appropriate authority at the time of Document
Verification. Similarly the candidates who want to avail the benefit of reservation of
OBC, must produce Caste Certificate and Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued by
appropriate authority at the time of Document Verification.
b. Candidates who want to avail the benefit of reservation must produce a Disability
certificate issued by Competent Authority (i.e Medical Board constituted by the
Central or State Government). The disability of the candidates should not be less
than 40%.
MODE OF ENGAGEMENT:
The selection will be on the basis of Merit List prepared in respect of all the eligible
candidates who apply against the Notification. The Merit List will be prepared by the
Committee nominated for this purpose by following the procedure mentioned as under:
a) Fresher Category :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted for 200 and
merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks duly ensuring Minimum 50% in
aggregate marks in Matriculation.
b) Ex.ITI :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted to 100 marks ( duly
ensuring Minimum 50% marks in aggregate) + ITI marks duly converted to 100. Total
marks put together will be calculated for 200 marks and merit list will be drawn based
on the converted marks giving equal weight age to both.
c) MLT :- Marks obtained in Higher Secondary (with Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology)
will be converted for 200 and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks
duly ensuring Minimum 50% in aggregate marks in Matriculation.
For candidates possessing Xth through General Education Department, Government of
Kerala the grades are classified on nine-point scale. Administration will take midpoint
of range of grades obtained by the candidates. After obtaining midpoints of all the
attempted subjects according to grades awarded, percentage will be calculated treating
each subject is out of 100 marks as there is no standard method or multiplying factor
for calculation of average of matriculation for such Boards.
d) For SC/ST and PwBD ( PH quota) candidates the minimum percentage of 50% marks in
aggregate in Matriculation is not insisted upon)
e) In case of two candidates having the same marks, the older candidate will be preferred.
In case the dates of birth are also same, then the candidate who has passed
Matriculation Examination earlier will be considered.
f) Original transfer certificate for completion of qualifying examination (Std.
X/XII/ITI) must be produced during document verification.
7. Processing fee (Non-Refundable) Rs.100/-.
Fee is to be paid through ONLINE MODE. Ne fee is required to be paid by
SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates.
8. Standard of Physical Fitness/Medical Examination:
Shortlisted candidates should produce Medical certificate at the time of document
verification in the prescribed format as per Apprentice Act 1961 and Para 4 of
Apprenticeship Rules 1992 (as amended time to time).
The Medical certificates should be signed by Government Authorized Doctor (Gaz.) not
below the rank of Asst.Surgeon of Central/State Government Hospital in terms Railway
Board’s letter no E(MPP)/2009/6/14 dated 04/12/2018.
Mode of communication:
The selected candidates shall be engaged in the unit of their choice subject to the extent of
vacancies and they may have to engage in other units coming under the jurisdiction if so
warranted by the administrative requirement.
The selected ITI/Non-ITI (Fresher’s) candidates have to execute a contract of
apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act-1961 and if such candidates is minor his
Guardian can execute the prescribed contract as per the guidelines of Regional Director of
Apprenticeship Training, Guindy,Chennai.
Note: (i) Candidates selected for training will not be allowed to withdraw from training
except for reasons, which are beyond their control. Before commencement of the
training, the candidates have to execute a contract of Apprenticeship.
(ii) Those who willfully absent themselves are liable to refund the whole cost of their
training as well as the amount paid as stipend as determined by the Central
Apprenticeship Adviser.
(iii) If any declaration furnished by the candidate is found to be false, he/she will be
disqualified/terminated at any stage of the training period without any notice
There is NO GUARANTEE FOR EMPLOYMENT and their contract of apprenticeship will be
terminated on completion training on completion of training. However, 20% of the
vacancies in case of Direct recruitment through RRC’s will be filled giving preference to
course completed act apprentices.
Eligibility of Persons with Disability candidates:
4 % of Apprentices to be trained are reserved for persons with disability under the
following physical standards as per the provisions of Schedule-II of Apprenticeship manual and
Railway Boards letter No.E(MPP)2003/6/14 dated:09/12/2003. Training in the Relevant Trade

Matriculation [with minimum 50% aggregate marks] and ITI examination giving equal weightage
to both.
For Freshers:- The average of marks obtained by the candidates in Matriculation/10th Std.
Medical examination:
Selected candidates shall have to bring Medical Certificate at the time of document
verification in the prescribed format as per Apprentices Act, 1961 and Para 4 of Apprenticeship
Rules, 1992(as amended from time to time).
